Hi everyone,
This is a special issue to Patreon supporters from the Curious Elephant Channel. This is Lei, I am launching this disruption and business focused newsletter called Disrupted, I would love to have you guys be the first one to read it.
You have been of great support to me over the years, some of you have left the community and some still are with me, I am equally grateful to all. This newsletter will host my latest analysis and opinions on various companies and industries, including early script releases to my videos on the channel. I would imagine a great deal of emphasis on space tech, renewables, and general interest Internet companies.
The analysis I share on YouTube is often the tip of the iceberg comparing to the research I do for businesses. So, I will share the in-depth opinion & analysis here with graphs and some calculations, along with readings and reports I’ve gone through in the course of researching the company.
What is even better? The newsletter is completely free for now. Enjoy!
Lei
Note: I do not have plans to launch paid issues yet as I need to find a viable value proposition for a paid product. But when I do, pls approach me through Twitter @LeiCreatives or wherever channels you can find me, tell me you’re an early Patreon member, and I will give you a 3-month complimentary subscription as a thank-you for the support you’ve extended to me over the years.
I’d understand if some of you do not want to be bothered with newsletters, just let me know and I will remove you from the list, else you can unsub.
Before you go, I’d like you to understand what Disrupted is about!
Disrupted is created by Lei.
Throughout my career, I have been a venture capital analyst, an entrepreneur, a YouTube creator, and most recently a Strategy Director at an MNC, but what impressed me most are the disruptions happening in front of our eyes, its scope, and how quickly they bring about change. While many people analyze quarter to quarter company performances to inform investment decisions, I’d like to go long, to explore the fundamental forces that fostered these changes. So, if you’re out to seek advice for short-term investment gains, this is not for you.
I believe businesses now face 3 fundamentally disruptive forces, these correspond to topics covered on Disrupted, namely Startups, Big Tech & the rising anxiety about China.
The spread of the Internet and mobile phones fundamentally changed and will continue to change people’s social behavior and psyche which is uprooting all businesses.
Technology disruptions threaten to tear up the very fabric of society. This is happening in all fields including new materials, renewable and nuclear energy, quantum computing, AI, space technology, and more.
The U.S.-China competition now puts Asian values to the test. As China is poised to take the No.1 position in global consumption, more and more Asian values and thinkings must be accommodated by western businesses, and more Chinese companies will launch globally. So, how do the Chinese think? What are the implications of Confucianism in the business arena? Is China Communist with a big ‘C’? Just to name a few big questions.
Though this letter is about disruption and business, I’d like to acknowledge that under my analysis framework, this is only one side of the story. Disruptions are the forces behind progress (positive feedback), but they are also forces behind disasters like the 2008 financial crisis which arguably is the result of rapid “innovations” in the derivative market. This, therefore, necessitates counterbalancing forces like regulatory institutions and governments (negative feedback). They need to step in to prevent disasters with foresight and define what is ‘progress’ for society, not the Suits. Governments around the world investing in green energy are a good example, we cannot allow corporates to take lead in this field. These positive and negative feedbacks together produce a more harmonious business environment where progress is cultivated, and greed is contained.
With Disrupted, I wish to share with my audience a definitive perspective of someone who is passionate about business, technology, and the future.
