Hey Jakob, Gmail reads are counted in the open rate, don't worry about it.
The only downside of Gmail is "When the size of the email exceeds the 102 KB limit, Gmail hides the full content behind a “[Message clipped] View Entire Message” link." Many of my posts are long and they often get clipped if I put in more charts, just so you're aware.
